Mashup Score: 1The Reporting of Race and Ethnicity in the Conduct Disorder Literature: A Time‐Sensitive Review | Psychiatric Research and Clinical Practice - 5 month(s) ago
Background Among presenting conditions in pediatric acute care settings, conduct disorder (CD) is a potentially stigmatizing yet common diagnosis in the setting of behavioral dysregulation requiring psychiatric admission. Concerns exist about over‐diagnosis of CD in non‐Hispanic Black children relative to White peers and the potential for the CD diagnosis to obfuscate manifestations of co‐occurring psychiatric conditions. Methods We evaluated the number of manuscripts on CD diagnoses that report race and ethnicity and co‐occurring mental health characteristics (i.e., history of trauma, attention‐deficit hyperactivity disorder [ADHD], or substance use disorders [SUDs]) that are often undertreated in racially minoritized children. Using the keywords “conduct disorder” or “externalizing disorder,” we screened peer‐reviewed articles in PubMed published from January 2013 to November 2023. Results We screened 2791 manuscripts for potential inclusion, of which 136 were original research artic

Background Celiac disease (CD) is an autoimmune disorder in which genetically susceptible individuals cannot digest gluten (wheat) and its homologs such as Scalin (rye) and Hordein (barley). Aim This systematic review and meta‐analysis aimed to investigate the measures of associations between CD and psychiatric disorders, specifically anxiety and depression, and explore the relationship between adherence to a Gluten‐Free Diet (GFD) and the psychiatric aspects of the disease. Methods We searched PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science for articles investigating anxiety and depression in CD patients. The following inclusion criteria were implemented: Primary research articles (either observational or experimental) that include participants with a CD diagnosis ‐confirmed either serologically, with anti‐endomysial antibodies, anti‐tissue transglutaminase antibodies, or with duodenum biopsy, whether on a GFD or not,—who have depression or anxiety symptoms identified through self‐report or clinici

Objective Early identification of substance use during adolescence is imperative to reduce the risk of morbidity and mortality. The aim of this study was to determine the utility of the Global Appraisal of Individual Needs‐Quick Version 4 (GAIN‐Q4) at diagnosing substance use disorders (SUDs) in adolescents. Methods The GAIN‐Q4 was developed from the GAIN‐Quick Version 3 by adding items from the original measure (GAIN‐I) to diagnose SUDs and provide level of care recommendations. Prevalence, sensitivity (SE), specificity, Cohen’s kappa, and percent agreement between the GAIN‐I and GAIN‐Q4 were calculated for substance use and mental health (MH) diagnoses. The GAIN‐I was administered to adolescents aged 12–17 and adults across levels of care and service settings from 2002 to 2018. The sample included 101,897 adolescents (71.50% male; average age 15.59, SD = 1.25 years) and 204,711 adults aged 18 and older (61.72% male; average age 34.24; SD = 11.67). Results Nearly half of adolescents (

Mashup Score: 1HIV care retention in three multi-month ART dispensing: a... : AIDS - 6 month(s) ago
tarted ART between January 2018 and March 2021. Individuals were followed until December 2021. Cox proportional-hazards models were used to compare attrition (lost to follow-up, death, and transfer out) between 3MMD and monthly ART dispensing. Results were stratified by time on ART before 3MMD enrolment: ‘early enrollers’ (<6 months on ART) and ‘established enrollers’ (≥6 months on ART), and age groups: adolescents and youth (AYLHIV) (10–24 years) and adults (≥25 years). Results: We included 7378 PWH (25% AYLHIV, 75% adults), with 59% and 62% enrolled in 3MMD, respectively. Median follow-up time was 11.3 [interquartile range (IQR): 5.7–21.6] months for AYLHIV and 10.2 (IQR: 4.8–20.9) for adults. Attrition was lower in PWH enrolled in 3MMD compared with monthly ART dispensing, in both established (aHR AYLHIV = 0.65; 95% CI: 0.54–0.78 and aHR adults = 0.50; 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.44–0.56) and early enrollers (aHR AYLHIV = 0.70; 95% CI: 0.58–0.85 and aHR adults = 0.63; 95% CI: 0.

Mashup Score: 0“Catching Chain” With Medicaid: The Impact of Medicaid Access on Opioid Overdose Mortality in Adults Released From State Detention - 7 month(s) ago
Objective To combat the heightened risk of opioid overdose death for individuals with criminal justice involvements, enhanced access to Medicaid remains paramount. This study examines the effect of a 2017 policy change in Pennsylvania that allowed for suspension, rather than termination, of Medicaid coverage while in prison on post‐release opioid overdose mortality risk (OOMR) for adults released from Pennsylvania prisons. Methods This retrospective cohort study utilizes administrative records from the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections for adults ≥18 years diagnosed with opioid use disorder (OUD) released in either 2015 or 2018. Death certificate data were used to compare OOMR within a year after release, both prior to and following the policy change. Demographic, treatment, and death characteristics were assessed with bivariate analyses. Multivariable logistic regressions were used to examine the association between qualification of Medicaid suspension and post‐release crude mort

Mashup Score: 2Recency of Suicide Attempt, Ideation, and Reattempt in the Emergency Department: Managing Youth With a Past Attempt - 8 month(s) ago
Objective This study describes recency of suicide attempt (SA) and suicidal ideation (SI) at index emergency department (ED) visit and post‐ED‐discharge reattempt among pediatric patients. Methods Secondary analysis from the ED Screen for Teens at Risk for Suicide study included patients ages 12–17 who reported a past SA during screening and received a phone call 3‐month post‐ED‐discharge assessing reattempt. Logistic regressions tested past SA/SI recency as predictors of reattempt. Descriptive statistics on SA/SI recency and reattempt are provided. Results Sample included 351 patients reporting a past SA during screening (70% cisgender female, 59% White, 53% psychiatric chief complaint, mean [SD] age = 15.3 [1.5]). 17% (60/351) reattempted suicide post‐ED‐discharge. Compared to patients who attempted over a year ago, patients with recent SA within 3 months, especially 1 week before screening, had greater odds of reattempting (3 months: p < 0.05, adjusted odds ratio [adjOR] = 3.1 [1.1–

Mashup Score: 1Adapting Virtual Reality‐Based Mental Health Interventions for Equitable Global Use: Proof of Concept - 8 month(s) ago
Among low and middle‐income countries (LMICs), mental health challenges are compounded by poverty and limited access to mental health services, particularly among older adults (1, 2, 3). There is a need for effective and innovative interventions tailored to these populations. Mindfulness interventions can be applied trans‐diagnostically and have been shown as feasible and effective in LMICs (4). However, mindfulness can be challenging to engage with, especially at the start of the practice (5). Notably,

Mashup Score: 1Quality of Life and Functioning Impairments Across Psychiatric Disorders in Adults Presenting for Outpatient Psychiatric Evaluation and Treatment - 9 month(s) ago
Objective Psychiatric disorders are associated with impairments in quality of life (QOL) and functioning. What remained to be investigated was the comparison of these constructs across psychiatric disorders in treatment‐seeking adults. It was hypothesized that mood disorder patients would endorse worse QOL and functioning at entry into psychiatric outpatient treatment compared to patients with other disorders, and that regardless of diagnosis, severe impairments in QOL and functioning would be endorsed by the majority of the sample (>70%). Methods Data were collected for 2114 adults. Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders diagnoses were obtained using the Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview. Patients completed measures of QOL (Q‐LES‐Q), functioning (Work and Social Adjustment Scale [WSAS], Sheehan Disability Scale, Endicott Work Productivity Scale), and depression (Quick Inventory of Depressive Symptomatology‐Self Report). Results Overall, 70.6% of patients wit
