Objective Psychiatric disorders are associated with impairments in quality of life (QOL) and functioning. What remained to be investigated was the comparison of these constructs across psychiatric disorders in treatment‐seeking adults. It was hypothesized that mood disorder patients would endorse worse QOL and functioning at entry into psychiatric outpatient treatment compared to patients with other disorders, and that regardless of diagnosis, severe impairments in QOL and functioning would be endorsed by the majority of the sample (>70%). Methods Data were collected for 2114 adults. Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders diagnoses were obtained using the Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview. Patients completed measures of QOL (Q‐LES‐Q), functioning (Work and Social Adjustment Scale [WSAS], Sheehan Disability Scale, Endicott Work Productivity Scale), and depression (Quick Inventory of Depressive Symptomatology‐Self Report). Results Overall, 70.6% of patients wit

We report the first case to our knowledge of a patient with treatment‐resistant depression secondary to COVID‐19 infection who was treated with repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) and present neuroinflammatory alterations revealed by positron emission tomography (PET). Mashup Score: 3Bring It Up: An Adapted Collaborative Care Model for Depression in a Safety‐Net Primary Care Clinic - 3 month(s) ago
Objective Over 90 clinical trials demonstrate the efficacy of the collaborative care model (CoCM) to treat depression in primary care but there is significant variability in real‐world CoCM implementation and scalability. This study aimed to determine the feasibility and effectiveness of an adapted CoCM in a safety‐net primary care setting. Methods Bring It Up! (BIU) is a pilot trial comparing an adapted CoCM (intervention group) to usual care (historical controls) for primary care safety‐net clinic patients with depression. Inclusion criteria: (1) age ≥18; (2) Patient Health Questionnaire‐9 (PHQ‐9) score ≥10; and (3) major depressive disorder diagnosis. Patients who completed ≥6 months of treatment upon rolling enrollment (April 1, 2018–October 31, 2019) were included. Historical controls completed ≥6 months of usual care in 2017. BIU included all aspects of CoCM except accountable care and leveraged existing staff rather than a dedicated care manager. The primary outcome was depressi

Objectives Digital health solutions have the potential to improve maternal mental health care. The objective of this study is to determine if utilization of a digital health platform, Maven, is associated with improved management of mental health among peripartum people with a history of mental health disorders and determine which components of utilization associate with maternal mental health outcomes. Methods Participants in this retrospective cohort analysis (n = 1561) accessed Maven as an employer‐sponsored health benefit and enrolled during their pregnancy and delivered from January 2020 through September 2022. Participants completed health surveys at enrollment, including history of a mood disorder, and post‐delivery. Maven includes online articles, asynchronous and synchronous virtual classes, app‐based mental health screenings, access to allied health professional and maternity care providers via messaging and telehealth appointments. Mashup Score: 3Addressing Challenges in Residential Facilities: Promoting Human Rights and Recovery While Pursuing Functional Autonomy - 5 month(s) ago
Objective Italian residential facilities (RFs) aim to promote human rights and recovery for individuals with severe mental disorders. Italian RFs can be distinguished into five main types: high‐intensity rehabilitation (RF1), medium‐intensity rehabilitation (RF2), medium‐level support (RF3.1), high‐level support (RF3.2), low‐level support (RF3.3). This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of Italian RFs in achieving functional autonomy while upholding human rights and recovery. Methods Data on socio‐demographics, clinical information, patient and staff assessments of functional autonomy, types of interventions, and RF performance in various domains were collected in a pilot study with a cross‐sectional design. Descriptive and inferential analyses were conducted. Results Twelve RFs and 113 patients participated, with varying proportions in each RF type. RF1 patients were the oldest (p < 0.001) with the lowest functional autonomy (p < 0.001), while RF2 patients were the youngest (p <
