f eGFR laboratory data and case report forms had not been completed. This resulted in a small number of kidney composite events and a nominal effect of sotagliflozin versus placebo on this outcome. This exploratory analysis uses laboratory eGFR data, regardless of case report form completion, to assess the effects of sotagliflozin on the predefined kidney composite end point in the SCORED trial and additional cardiorenal composite end points. Methods SCORED was a multicenter, randomized trial evaluating cardiorenal outcomes with sotagliflozin versus placebo in 10,584 patients with type 2 diabetes and CKD. This exploratory analysis used laboratory data to derive the eGFR components and case report form data for the non-laboratory–defined components that together made up the kidney and cardiorenal composites. AKI was also assessed in this dataset. Results Using laboratory data, 223 events were identified, and sotagliflozin reduced the risk of the composite of first event of sustained ≥50

dialysis population. Methods A case–control study was conducted of adults with CKD using data extracted from the electronic health record database in Hong Kong. Adults with CKD and COVID-19 confirmed by PCR were included in the study. Each case was matched with up to ten controls attending Hospital Authority services without a diagnosis of COVID-19 on the basis of age, sex, and index date (within three calendar days). The vaccine effectiveness of BNT162b2 and CoronaVac in preventing COVID-19 infection, hospitalizations, and all-cause mortality was estimated using conditional logistic regression adjusted by patients’ comorbidities and medication history during the outbreak from January to March 2022. Results A total of 20,570 COVID-19 cases, 6604 COVID-19–related hospitalizations, and 2267 all-cause mortality were matched to 81,092, 62,803, and 21,348 controls, respectively. Compared with the unvaccinated group, three doses of BNT162b2 or CoronaVac were associated with a reduced risk of

is higher among young, male agricultural workers, but it also affects women, children, and nonagricultural workers in affected areas. Biopsies from patients with CINAC across regions commonly demonstrate tubular injury with lysosomal aggregates, tubulointerstitial inflammation, and fibrosis and variable glomerular changes. Each endemic area holds environmental risk factors and patient/genetic milieus, resulting in uncertainty about the cause(s) of the disease. Currently, there is no specific treatment available for CINAC. We highlight survey findings of Houston-based migrant workers with CINAC and draw similarities between kidney injury phenotype of patients with CINAC and mice treated chronically with paraquat, an herbicide used worldwide. We propose potential pathways and mechanisms for kidney injury in patients with CINAC, which may offer clues for potential therapies….

d standard) in this population with kidney failure who underwent bone biopsies. Methods: This cross-sectional study enrolled 71 clinically stable children and young adults receiving dialysis who underwent bone biopsy for chronic kidney disease-mineral bone disorder between 2007 through 2011. Bone biopsies were stained with Perls’ Prussian blue and independently interpreted by a pathologist blinded to participants’ iron parameters and clinical status. Marrow staining was scored absent vs. present to facilitate receiver operator curve (ROC) analysis. In ROC analysis, the ability of serum ferritin to detect stainable marrow iron stores was compared with that of transferrin saturation (TSAT), serum hepcidin, and clinical guideline-based iron deficiency cut-offs for serum iron, TSAT, and their combinations. Results: Mean age was 17.2 ± 4.4 years (range 2-28), and 30% of patients were female. Median dialysis vintage was 1.2 (IQR 0.7, 2.0) years, and 56% were supported by peritoneal dialysis.

Iron deficiency is common in children with kidney failure, but guidelines are based on biomarkers of iron stores that may be influenced by inflammation. This study found serum ferritin provided the best indication of stainable marrow iron stores https://t.co/0N0WW63ZAu @MarkH_MD https://t.co/pTlwUNTua0
