The era of SARS-CoV-2 variants calls for an urgent strategy for COVID-19 vaccination in children
With the prolonged circulation of SARS-CoV-2 and the widespread administration of COVID-19 vaccines, the immunity against SARS-CoV-2 in adults is predominantly due to previous variant exposures, vaccination, or both.1,2 However, as immunity due to vaccination and previous infection with SARS-CoV-2 wanes, there is a risk of reinfection. Current studies have focused on variant-specific booster shots in vulnerable populations to sustain immune protection and broaden the spectrum of antibody responses against SARS-CoV-2 variants.
