Background Suicide is a significant cause of mortality in the United States, accounting for 14.5 deaths/100,000. Although there are data on gender disparity in suicide/self-inflicted injury rates in the United States, few studies have examined the factors associated with suicide/self-inflicted injury in females. Objective To determine factors associated with suicide/self-inflicted injuries among women aged 18–65 years in the United States. Methods Hospitalizations for suicide or self-inflicted injuries were identified using the National Inpatient Sample database from 2003–2015 using sample weights to generate national estimates. Independent predictors of suicide/self-inflicted injuries were identified using multivariable regression models. Interaction term analysis to identify the interaction between race/ethnicity and income were conducted. Results There were 1,031,693 adult women hospitalizations in the U.S. with a primary diagnosis of suicide/self-inflicted injury in the study perio

Sickle cell trait (SCT) is a genetic condition resulting from the presence of 1 abnormal hemoglobin gene and 1 normal hemoglobin gene. While SCT is generally considered benign, some reports suggest an association between SCT and adverse pregnancy outcomes (APOs). However, the evidence has been inconsistent. The cohort comprised self-reported non-Hispanic Black women from the UK Biobank (UKB). The SCT status of participants was determined based on the presence of the heterozygous Glu6Val mutation in the

This study uses vital registration and census data from 1999 to 2019 to quantify trends in maternal mortality ratios (maternal deaths per 100 000 live births) by state for 5 mutually exclusive racial and ethnic groups in the US using a bayesian extension of the generalized linear model network.

The effect of health inequalities is determined by different socioeconomic, sex, and race conditions. This study aimed to analyze the association of tooth loss with race (defined by self-reported skin color) and sex. Based on the hypothesis that the association between tooth loss and race may be modified by sex, we also aimed to evaluate possible interactions between race and sex in association…
