Global diabetes incidence trends in young adults
Descriptive epidemiology is important for understanding causes, evaluating potential effects of policies and environmental changes, and anticipating needs for prevention and care. Adolescence and young adulthood represents an important period because this is when most people tend to complete their education, start working, and have children. Diabetes can negatively influence all these events in life, and young-onset diabetes can translate into years of hyperglycaemia and increased risks of complications and mortality.
