Analgesic effectiveness after total hip arthroplasty
Total hip joint replacement (arthroplasty) is a very successful treatment for patients with symptomatic and advanced osteoarthritis.1 Although improved outcomes and cost effectiveness have been unequivocally demonstrated,2,3 acute postoperative pain impedes early recovery and rehabilitation. Multimodal analgesic opioid-sparing regimens are recommended for nearly all surgical procedures, but there is uncertainty as to the optimal combination for hip arthroplasty.4
