Constance Jean (Connie) Eaves was a pioneering scientist with outstanding and consistent contributions throughout her long-spanning, fifty-plus-year career. Her work with over 500 publications in hematopoiesis including erythropoiesis (Connie J. Gregory), and cancer stem cells, for which she obtained numerous awards, is recognized worldwide and widely cited. After her PhD training with Laszlo Lajtha in Manchester UK where she studied radiobiology and published her first “first author” paper in Nature, Connie carried out her post-doctoral training in Ontario Cancer Institute Toronto where she worked with James Till and Ernest McCulloch.

Mashup Score: 325A noncoding regulatory variant in IKZF1 increases acute lymphoblastic leukemia risk in Hispanic/Latino children - 2 month(s) ago
Genetic fine-mapping across the IKZF1 gene revealed a variant associated with childhood ALL that contributes to the increased risk of this disease in Hispanic/Latino individuals. The ALL risk allele reduces enhancer activity and IKZF1 expression specifically in B cell progenitors, likely resulting in stalled B cell development and an increased risk of ALL.

Mashup Score: 20An iron rheostat controls hematopoietic stem cell fate - 3 month(s) ago
The preservation of adult stem cell identity following cell division is essential for sustained tissue maintenance and repair. Will, Kao, and colleagues identify iron as a crucial regulator allowing hematopoietic stem cells to orchestrate metabolic and gene regulatory control during regenerative fate determination.

Mashup Score: 9Schistosome Infection Impacts Hematopoiesis - PubMed - 4 month(s) ago
Helminth infections are common in animals. However, the impact of a helminth infection on the function of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) and other hematopoietic cells has not been comprehensively defined. In this article, we describe the hematopoietic response to infection of mice with Schistosoma …
