Mashup Score: 1Variability in Estimated GFR: When the Signal Is the Noise - 14 hour(s) ago
Under the current paradigm for chronic kidney disease (CKD), estimates of glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and proteinuria are integral to defining the condition, determining its severity, gauging patients’ risk for adverse clinical outcomes, and estimating the population burden of disease.1 Patients’ risks for end-stage kidney disease (ESKD), mortality, cardiovascular events, and metabolic complications, which vary systematically by disease stage, are then important in guiding treatment recommendations and organizing care.

Mashup Score: 10Uromodulin and Risk of Upper Urinary Tract Infections: A Mendelian Randomization Study - 20 hour(s) ago
Observational studies suggest that uromodulin, produced by the kidneys, is associated with a reduced the risk of upper urinary tract infections, but inferences are limited by potential confounding factors. This study sought to explore further the validity of this association using Mendelian randomization.

Mashup Score: 7Longitudinal Change in Small Solute Clearance Measurement in Patients Receiving Peritoneal Dialysis - 2 day(s) ago
Peritoneal dialysis (PD) is a cost-effective home-based treatment for kidney failure [1,2]. Traditionally, small solute clearance in PD is evaluated by the total weekly Kt/V(urea), usually within 6 months of PD initiation and then every 4 to 6 months [3]. However, the evidence for a specific Kt/V(urea) target is weak, and the procedure of is cumbersome. Recent guidelines of the International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis (ISPD) emphasize a person-centered and goal directed approach without specific clearance targets [4], raising questions about the need of frequent monitoring.

Mashup Score: 18
Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) improve cardiac and kidney outcomes in patients with diabetes; however their efficacy in individuals with reduced estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) is uncertain. This study evaluated the effects of GLP-1RAs on kidney and cardiovascular (CV) outcomes in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD).
