The BMJ will remunerate patient and public reviewers
The BMJ will offer £50 for reviews by patients and the public From January 2025 patients and members of the public who complete a review for The BMJ will be offered £50 or a 12 month online subscription to one of the BMJ journals as a thank you for their service. This is in addition to the 12 month online subscription to The BMJ that we offer all reviewers on completion of a review. This approach aligns with the National Institute of Health Research guide on payments for patients and the public in research.1 We introduced our patient and public review process2 as part of our commitment to co-produce content and enhance the relevance and patient centredness of our articles.3 Patients, carers, and patient advocates are invited to review the relevance and importance of the research question and outcome measures from the perspective of someone who has lived experience in the topic area.
