To the Editor: Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors have the potential to revolutionize the treatment of alopecia areata (AA). However, a proportion of patients with AA either show a suboptimal response or experience a recurrence of hair loss after an initial positive response to JAK inhibitor therapy.1,2 There is a lack of data on the comparative efficacy of different JAK inhibitors in the treatment of AA.3 Tofacitinib, a partial and reversible JAK-1/3 inhibitor, and baricitinib, a selective and reversible JAK-1/2 inhibitor, both have been used to treat AA successfully.
