Ventricular arrhythmias (VA) are common during left ventricular assist device (LVAD) therapy with an estimated incidence between 10-30% 1,2. Although implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) or cardiac resynchronization therapy-defibrillators (CRT-D) reduce overall mortality and mortality related to sudden cardiac death in selected systolic heart failure patients, it remains uncertain whether these devices confer a benefit in LVAD patients 3-6. Observational data from single-center studies as well as large United States registries have not demonstrated an improvement in survival in patients with an ICD 2,7-9.
