Mashup Score: 18Stroke History and Time Elapsed are Predictors of Complications in Total Knee Arthroplasty - 6 day(s) ago
A consensus has not been reached regarding the optimal timing of elective total knee arthroplasty (TKA) following a stroke. The purpose of this study was to examine the optimal period between stroke and TKA to minimize complications. Specifically, we assessed: (1) medical and surgical complications; (2) timing of stroke and TKA; (3) associated risk factors.

Mashup Score: 82
Periprosthetic fractures (PPFs) account for approximately 25% of early revisions following total hip arthroplasty (THA). Cemented femoral fixation is associated with a lower-risk of PPF, and collared-cementless stems may reduce the risk as well. The objective of this study was to compare early-PPF rates between cemented, collared-cementless, and non-collared cementless stems in elderly patients.

Mashup Score: 28Low Risk of Fracture Using a Cementless Triple-Tapered Collared Femoral Stem With Automated Impaction in Direct Anterior Approach Total Hip Arthroplasty - 1 month(s) ago
Direct anterior approach (DAA) total hip arthroplasty (THA) has been associated with increased periprosthetic femoral fracture (PFF) risk. The aim of our study was to evaluate the fracture risk utilizing a triple-tapered, collared stem with automated impaction through the anterior approach.

Mashup Score: 23Social Media Use and Its Impact on Physician Review Website Ratings in Hip and Knee Arthroplasty - 2 month(s) ago
The growth in social media (SM) use and consumer-driven health care has led more patients to rate surgeons on physician review websites (PRWs). This study assessed surgeon’s professional SM presence and its relationship to PRW ratings.

Mashup Score: 20Smokeless Tobacco Use is Associated With Worse Medical and Surgical Outcomes Following Total Hip Arthroplasty - 2 month(s) ago
Studies have demonstrated increased complication risk after total hip arthroplasty (THA) in patients who smoke cigarettes. It is unclear if smokeless tobacco use confers a similar impact. The purpose of this study was to (1) evaluate rates of postoperative complications after THA in smokeless tobacco users and people who smoke compared to matched controls, and (2) compare rates of postoperative complications in smokeless tobacco users versus patients who smoke.

Stroke prior to TKA was associated with an increased risk of postoperative complications, specifically PJI. We recommend a minimum of 6 months between stroke and TKA, with 18 months offering the lowest risk. https://t.co/yC1LuwNCj1 #VA by Dr. David Deckey https://t.co/Z07YR1TeAi
