Mashup Score: 67
Periprosthetic fractures (PPFs) account for approximately 25% of early revisions following total hip arthroplasty (THA). Cemented femoral fixation is associated with a lower-risk of PPF, and collared-cementless stems may reduce the risk as well. The objective of this study was to compare early-PPF rates between cemented, collared-cementless, and non-collared cementless stems in elderly patients.

Mashup Score: 28
Direct anterior approach (DAA) total hip arthroplasty (THA) has been associated with increased periprosthetic femoral fracture (PFF) risk. The aim of our study was to evaluate the fracture risk utilizing a triple-tapered, collared stem with automated impaction through the anterior approach.

Mashup Score: 23Social Media Use and Its Impact on Physician Review Website Ratings in Hip and Knee Arthroplasty - 1 month(s) ago
The growth in social media (SM) use and consumer-driven health care has led more patients to rate surgeons on physician review websites (PRWs). This study assessed surgeon’s professional SM presence and its relationship to PRW ratings.

Mashup Score: 20Smokeless Tobacco Use is Associated With Worse Medical and Surgical Outcomes Following Total Hip Arthroplasty - 1 month(s) ago
Studies have demonstrated increased complication risk after total hip arthroplasty (THA) in patients who smoke cigarettes. It is unclear if smokeless tobacco use confers a similar impact. The purpose of this study was to (1) evaluate rates of postoperative complications after THA in smokeless tobacco users and people who smoke compared to matched controls, and (2) compare rates of postoperative complications in smokeless tobacco users versus patients who smoke.

Women orthopaedic surgeons face unique challenges during their careers. There are extremely low numbers of women in the field, particularly in the specialty of adult reconstruction. Factors contributing to low numbers of women entering this subspecialty include increased perceived physical demand relative to other fields, occupational hazards during pregnancy such as exposure to radiation and polymethylmethacrylate bone cement, concerns for work-life balance, and limited number of women within the subspecialty.

Mashup Score: 64Predicting Instability Risk Following Hemiarthroplasty for Femoral Neck Hip Fractures in Geriatric Patients - 2 month(s) ago
Although a rare complication, dislocation following hemiarthroplasty (HA) for a femoral neck hip fracture is associated with increased mortality, readmission, and possible revision surgery. To date many of the specific risk factors have been difficult to demonstrate. Patient factors, surgical factors, as well as morphological factors need to be assessed. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to elucidate the risk factors for dislocation of HA following femoral neck hip fractures in the geriatric population.

Mashup Score: 21A Smartphone Application-Based Remote Rehabilitation System for Post-Total Knee Arthroplasty Rehabilitation: A Randomized Controlled Trial - 3 month(s) ago
Remote rehabilitation after total knee arthroplasty has gradually gained popularity in recent years. This study aimed to determine whether smartphone application-based remote rehabilitation could outperform home-based rehabilitation and outpatient guidance in terms of 12-week outcomes following primary unilateral total knee arthroplasty.

Mashup Score: 2Early Discharge for Revision Total Knee and Hip Arthroplasty: Predictors of Success - 3 month(s) ago
The rate of revision total joint arthroplasties is expected to increase drastically in the near future. Given the recent pandemic, there has been a general push toward early discharge. This study aimed to assess for predictors of early postoperative discharge after revision total knee arthroplasty (rTKA) and revision total hip arthroplasty (rTHA).

Mashup Score: 66Obesity is Associated With Greater Improvement in Patient-Reported Outcomes Following Primary Total Knee Arthroplasty - 3 month(s) ago
Body mass index (BMI) cutoffs have been established for total knee arthroplasty (TKA) patients due to increased risk of medical complications in obese patients. However, evidence-based medical optimization may mitigate risk in these patients. This study examined the influence of BMI on patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) following primary TKA with specialized perioperative optimization.
