The advent of direct-acting oral anticoagulants (DOACs) has transformed the care of patients requiring prevention and treatment for thrombotic disease. Many randomized clinical trials have demonstrated the efficacy and safety of these agents and their comparative advantages over conventional anticoagulants such as vitamin K antagonists (VKAs). While historically clinicians and patients raised questions about the reversal of DOAC-associated bleeding, federal approval in recent years of targeted DOAC reversal agents, along with adjunctive modalities, has given clinicians reliable pharmacologic options. Yet, optimal reversal strategies for bleeding at specific anatomic locations and in specific clinical scenarios remains uncertain. We present here a narrative review of the literature on the reversal of DOAC-associated bleeding or for urgent procedures. However, no study has analyzed the specific relationship between ultra-processed food (UPF) consumption and academic performance in adolescents. The aim of the present study was to test the link of UPF consumption with academic performance in a sample of adolescents from Spain. Methods: This secondary cross-sectional analysis utilized information from 788 youths aged 12–17 participating in the Eating Healthy and Daily Life Activities study. Little is known about the anti-graying effects of antioxidants on hair. The anti-graying effects of three antioxidants (luteolin, hesperetin, and diosmetin) on hair were investigated according to the sequential processes of hair graying that were previously clarified in model mice [Ednrb(+/−);RET-mice]. External treatment with luteolin, but not that with hesperetin or diosmetin, alleviated hair graying in Ednrb(+/−);RET-mice. Internal treatment with luteolin also mitigated hair graying in the mice. Although both luteolin treatments had very limited effects on hair cycles, the treatments suppressed the increase in p16ink4a-positive cells in bulges [senescent keratinocyte stem cells (KSCs)]. Both of the treatments also suppressed decreases in the expression levels of endothelins in KSCs and their receptor (Ednrb) in melanocyte stem cells (MSCs) and alleviated hair graying in the mice. Background: In recent years, juicing has often been promoted as a convenient way to increase fruit and vegetable intake, with juice-only diets marketed for digestive cleansing and overall health improvement. Background: The predictive and prognostic role of BRAF alterations has been evaluated in colorectal cancer (CRC); however, BRAF alterations have not been fully characterized in non-CRC gastrointestinal (GI) malignancies. In the present study, we report the frequency and spectrum of BRAF alterations among patients with non-CRC GI malignancies. Methods: Patients with CRC and non-CRC GI malignancies who underwent somatic tumor profiling via a tissue-based or liquid-based assay were included in this study. Gain-of-function BRAF alterations were defined as pathogenic/likely pathogenic somatic short variants (SVs), copy number amplifications ≥8, or fusions (RNA or DNA). Results: Among 51,560 patients with somatic profiling, 40% had CRC and 60% had non-CRC GI malignancies. BRAF GOF alterations were seen more frequently in CRC (8.9%) compared to non-CRC GI malignancies (2.2%) (p < 0.001). Non-CRC GI malignancies with the highest prevalence of BRAF GOF alterations were bile duct cancers (4.1%)

Fibromyalgia (FM) is a chronic condition characterized by generalized musculoskeletal pain associated with other symptoms, especially sleep and mood disorders, fatigue, and cognitive dysfunctions. The etiopathogenesis of FM is not sufficiently known, and regardless of numerous research, the clinical presentation is nonspecific, which makes it difficult to approve a timely diagnosis and, subsequently, an adequate therapeutic approach. Genetic, hormonal, immunological, and environmental factors are cited as potential factors in the development of this condition. Diagnosis is based on a clinical approach and known diagnostic criteria, while additional methods, such as radiographic, magnetic resonance, or laboratory analyses, can be useful to exclude other conditions. Background: Neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs) are a heterogeneous group of tumors with unique biological characteristics and complications, including thromboembolism. This systematic review evaluates the incidence, types, and clinical outcomes of venous thromboembolic events (VTEs) in NEN patients. Methods: A systematic search of PubMed, Scopus, and Embase was conducted to identify studies on TEs in NENs. Eligible studies included case reports, case series, and retrospective cohort studies reporting VTEs, including deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism (PE), and visceral vein thrombosis (VVT). Data were extracted on tumor site, functionality, differentiation grade, and VTE type. Results: In total, 33 studies were included, comprising 26 case reports, 2 case series, and 5 retrospective cohort studies. VTE prevalence ranged from 7.5% to 33% across studies. The most common VTEs were DVT, PE, and portal vein thrombosis (PVT). A meta-analysis revealed a pooled VTE prevalence of 11.1%

Atherothrombosis, the primary driver of acute cardiovascular (CV) events, is characterized by the activation of three key pathophysiological pathways: platelets, coagulation, and inflammation. Dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) is the current standard of care for patients with acute coronary syndrome, providing significant reductions in cardiovascular (CV) events, albeit with an associated increased risk of bleeding. However, the high residual risk of recurrent events among these patients highlights the need for alternative strategies to treat and prevent atherothrombosis. To this extent, several approaches aimed at targeting atherothrombosis have been proposed.
