VanB transposon analysis detects horizontal gene transfer in vancomycin resistant Enterococcus faecium: description of two outbreaks. - 2 day(s) ago

Outbreaks with vancomycin resistant Enterococcus faecium (VRE) are common in hospitals worldwide. Whole genome MLST (wgMLST) is often used to identify outbreak strains, but VRE typing can still be challenging due to their limited genomic variation.

Defining water safety in healthcare premises - 2 day(s) ago

The term ‘water safety’ in healthcare is often applied to every stage of the life-cycle of a building from design, construction, installation, commissioning, occupation through to decommissioning and demolition, and yet it is poorly defined.

Integrating Infection Prevention into Antimicrobial Stewardship: A Dual Strategy for NICU Stewardship - 4 day(s) ago

We read with great interest the study by Tas et al. [1], which evaluated a vancomycin stewardship programme in a level IV neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). In their quasi-experimental study, the authors implemented interventions such as staff education, standardized protocols for vancomycin use, and prospective audit and feedback. Their results were impressive; vancomycin initiation decreased by 57%, and total vancomycin days of therapy per 1000 patient-days dropped from 113 to 45 (a 60% reduction).

Implementation of surgical site infection prophylaxis in children – a cross sectional prospective study - 9 day(s) ago

Surgical Site Infections (SSI) are a common cause for morbidity and mortality in both adults and children. In paediatric surgery, evidence on specific prevention measures is lacking and practice mainly depends on local guidelines and treating team’s preferences.Aim We aimed to investigate current practice for children undergoing surgery with respect to SSI prevention using a standardized surveillance tool.
