Selective autophagy impedes KSHV entry after recruiting the membrane damage sensor galectin-8 to virus-containing endosomes
Kaposi sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV) is associated with endothelial, osteoblastic, and B cell tumors. Schmidt et al. demonstrate that autophagy restricts KSHV during entry. Interaction of the KSHV glycoprotein gH with its entry receptor EphA2 seems to cause endosomal damage that then recruits autophagy via galectin-8 to limit infection.
