Long-term clinical outcome of oral immunotherapy in adults with milk, peanut, and egg allergy: A pilot study
In Europe, the lifetime prevalence of self-reported physician-diagnosed food allergies in adults is 4.7%.1 Strict allergen avoidance, oral immunotherapy (OIT), and sublingual immunotherapy are treatment options for food allergies.2,3 A recent study, with inclusion criteria of 5 mg of allergen protein tolerance in oral food challenge (OFC) before OIT, suggested that adults experience more adverse events and more often failed OIT than children and adolescents.4 Information on OIT and its long-term outcomes in adults remains limited.
