Hi! My name is Kyle Lundgren, and I am beyond excited to be running the 128th Boston Marathon® Presented by Bank of America to raise money for the Joslin Diabetes Center. In November of 2021, I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 25. With no family history of diabetes or track record of personal health ailments, it was a huge shock to be diagnosed at such a young age.Fitness and athletics have both been something I have felt extremely passionate about for my entire life. From the time I could walk, sports and physical activity in general have always had such a large presence in my life. With hockey, lacrosse, and most recently running after college, I was fearful that my 2021 diagnosis would bring everything I knew to a grinding halt.My mother has run 4 marathons, and my father has run 6 marathons. To me, running a marathon always seemed like a “when” goal, not an “if” goal.To say that my outlook on personal goals has changed since my diagnosis would be an understatement, b

When I entered Joslin Diabetes Center for the first time, I had four young children in tow following my eldest daughter Elle’s diagnosis with type one diabetes. I was in a fog of fear and I was terrified. How was I going to keep Elle safe? Would she be able to enjoy childhood? Could she continue performing and going to dance classes? Could I keep my job given the long commute? Would my three younger children, Annah, Caraline and William, face the same diagnosis? Would we ever sleep again? Is there any reason to hope for a cure?Joslin Diabetes Center has taken care of Elle for almost 16 years. And Joslin has taken care of our entire family from day one. From the Joslin Endocrinologists who treated Elle at Boston Children’s Hospital; to the Child Life Specialists who comforted and distracted Annah, Caraline and William through blood draws to screen for the risks of developing type one; to the Certified Diabetes Educators who were my lifeline as we navigated the highs and lows of diabetes

Jim, Madison, Kendall and Michele Gilbert are running the 2024 Boston Marathon to raise funds for the Joslin Diabetes Research Foundation. The Joslin Diabetes Research Foundation’s mission is to prevent, treat, and someday cure Type I and Type II Diabetes. Michele Gilbert has suffered from Type I Diabetes for over 22 years. It is a constant daily struggle to manage her blood sugar. The highs, the lows, the need to keep her blood sugar in check 24/7 is on our family’s minds all the time. Michele wears an insulin pump and a continuous glucose monitor each and every day. Additionally, Michele’s younger brother suffers from Type I diabetes, too. Jim, Madison and Kendall have all witnessed what a challenging disease Type I can be for the whole family. Michele could not manage her disease without the love and support of her family. As Peloton instructor, Jess Sims, always says, “I don’t have to do hard things, I get to.” We know running a marathon will be a huge challenge – our family
