The national prevalence of heart failure (HF) and stimulant use—notably methamphetamine and cocaine—is increasing, and there is increasing recognition of the connection between the two in the form of stimulant-associated cardiomyopathy (SA-CMP).1–5 Mortality and acute care use (eg, emergency department visits, hospital admissions) rates are disproportionately elevated in people with SA-CMP, whereas consistent outpatient care engagement rates are lower than matched controls.6 In California, methamphetamine-associated HF admissions increased 600%, from 1.2% of all hospitalizations in 2008 to 8.0% in 2018.
