Mashup Score: 36It is time to bust the myth of physical inactivity and obesity: you cannot outrun a bad diet - 18 day(s) ago
A recent report from the UK’s Academy of Medical Royal Colleges described ‘the miracle cure’ of performing 30 min of moderate exercise, five times a week, as more powerful than many drugs administered for chronic disease prevention and management.1 Regular physical activity reduces the risk of developing cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, dementia and some cancers by at least 30%. However, physical activity does not promote weight loss. In the past 30 years, as obesity has rocketed, there has been little change in physical activity levels in the Western population.2 This places the blame for our expanding waist lines directly on the type and amount of calories consumed. However, the obesity epidemic represents only the tip of a much larger iceberg of the adverse health consequences of poor diet. According to The Lancet global burden of disease reports, poor diet now generates more disease than physical inactivity, alcohol and smoking combined. Up to 40% of those with a normal bod

Mashup Score: 26Twelve-Month All-Cause Mortality after Initial COVID-19 Vaccination with Pfizer-BioNTech or mRNA-1273 among Adults Living in Florida - 23 day(s) ago
Comparative effects of the mRNA COVID-19 vaccines on mortality and other health outcomes are uncertain. Matched cohort analysis of 1,962,822 adults living in Florida who received a first dose of either BNT162b2 (Pfizer) or mRNA-1273 (Moderna) between December 18, 2020, and August 31, 2021, was used to examine 12-month risk of all-cause, cardiovascular, COVID-19, and non-COVID-19 mortality. Matching was performed on seven criteria, including census tract. Compared with mRNA-1273 recipients, BNT162b2 recipients had significantly higher risk for all-cause mortality (783.6 vs. 562.4 deaths per 100,000; odds ratio, OR [95% CI]: 1.407 [1.358, 1.457]), cardiovascular mortality, COVID-19 mortality and non-COVID-19 mortality. Negative control outcomes and robustness analyses did not show any indication of meaningful unobserved residual confounding that is likely to alter the results. The results of this study are consistent with cumulative evidence from prior literature showing worse outcomes i

Mashup Score: 4866It's time for the medical establishment to admit they made a terrible mistake - Dr Aseem Malhotra - 1 month(s) ago
Here’s the speech I prepared for the Global Health Awards 2025 that took place in the House of Commons members dining area on Thursday July 10th. It was attended by over 100 people that included healthcare leaders, politicians and clinicians. I was pleasantly surprised to receive and award for excellence in public health communication. The fact that my speech was also well received is a sign that the counter more honest narrative on the health crisis is gaining traction in powerful circles.
