Proliferative vitreoretinopathy(PVR) is a type of fibrotic eye disease with a poor clinical prognosis. Increasing evidence has shown that the primary pathological mechanism of PVR is the epithelial-mesenchymal transition(EMT) of retinal pigment epithelium(RPE) cells. Histone deacetylase 3(HDAC3) is a crucial enzyme involved in regulating the acetylation level of proteins. Several studies have reported associations between HDAC3 levels and EMT in various tumors; however, the specific effect of HDAC3 on PVR remains largely unknown.

Mashup Score: 33CD19-targeted chimeric antigen receptor T cell therapy in two patients with multiple sclerosis - 5 day(s) ago
Multiple sclerosis leads to smoldering inflammation in the central nervous system upheld by proliferating immune cells, including B cells; however, current therapies remain insufficient to target these immune compartments. Here, CD19-targeted CAR-T cell therapy was applied in two patients with multiple sclerosis, showing tolerable safety with promising disease-specific target-cell effects.

Artificial intelligence (AI) image translation has been a valuable tool for processing image data in biological and medical research. To apply such a tool in mission-critical applications, including drug screening, toxicity study, and clinical diagnostics, it is essential to ensure that the AI prediction is trustworthy. Here, we demonstrate that an ensemble learning method can quantify the uncertainty of AI image translation. We tested the uncertainty evaluation using experimentally acquired images of mesenchymal stromal cells.

Mashup Score: 3TPC1 regulates melanoma tumourigenesis via mTORC1 and TFEB - 5 day(s) ago
The major cause of death in cancer patients is a combination of metastatic dissemination combined with therapy resistance. Over recent years, intratumour phenotypic heterogeneity arising from the bi-directional interplay between plastic cancer cells and the microenvironment has been identified as key to disease progression. Most notably metastatic outgrowth and resistance to targeted therapies are frequently associated with activity of mTORC1, a key metabolic hub that promotes protein synthesis and proliferation in the presence of nutrients.

Mashup Score: 8Mechanical and biochemical feedback combine to generate complex contractile oscillations in cytokinesis - 5 day(s) ago
Werner et al. study cytokinesis using high-resolution microscopy and mathematical modeling. They report that contractility occurs via oscillations of activation, compaction, dormancy, and reactivation. These insights will help us understand non-muscle contractility in many contexts, including cell migration and tissue remodeling.
