sseous and ligamentous contributions must be recognized for successful treatment. A graphical planning method identifies the true (oblique) plane of deformity. Surgical treatment options include epiphysiodesis to prevent progressive deformity, guided growth, opening-wedge proximal tibial osteotomy, and gradual correction with concomitant limb lengthening using external fixation or motorized internal lengthening. Opening-wedge proximal tibial osteotomy conducted along the true deformity plane is a reliable surgical method for lesser-magnitude deformities. Gradual correction using circular external fixation is considered when the magnitude of correction is greater than 25º or when limb shortening and/or multiplanar deformity is present. After successful surgical management, patients can expect to achieve correction of knee hyperextension, posterior tibial slope, and mechanical axis. Restoration of these parameters re-establishes physiologic loading of the knee. This review illustrates th

e in the Health Sector Country Case Studies Research Instruments Survey Questionnaire’ was sent to Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons members, including residents and fellows. Deidentified responses were collected electronically over a 1-month period and assessed. Results: Overall, 1,125 Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons members participated (5% response rate). Most respondents were male (86%) and identified with the majority ethnic group (80%). WPV of any type was reported by 77.1%. Verbal abuse was the most common type (71.6%), and patients were the most common perpetrators. WPV was most prevalent among traumatologists, tumor surgeons, female surgeons, and those with 0 to 15 years in practice. Female surgeons reported more WPV events per practice year (2.25 versus 0.65, P < 0.01) and increased likelihood of physical threats and physical assaults from coworkers (P = 0.004). Discussion: WPV in orthopaedic surgery is largely perpetrated by patients and directed toward traumatologists, tumor

used to a surgeon’s benefit, most commonly for hemostasis and local control of tumors. It is simultaneously one of the most dangerous by-products of orthopaedic techniques as a result of burring, drilling, cementation, and electrocautery and can severely damage tissues if used improperly. Similarly, cooling can be used to a surgeon’s advantage in some orthopaedic subspecialties, but the potential for harm to tissues is also great. Understanding the potential of a given technique to rapidly alter local temperature—and the range of temperatures tolerated by a given tissue—is imperative to harness the power of heat and cold. In all subspecialties of orthopaedic surgery, thermal damage is a relevant topic that represents a direct connection between preclinical and clinical practice….

surgeons as to patient preferences, the rate at which they are available and disparities in ACP completion are still not understood. The objective of this study was to evaluate disparities in the completion of ACP among patients with acute SCI. Methods: All patients presenting with cervical SCI to the emergency department at an urban, tertiary level I trauma center from 2010 to 2021 were identified from a prospective database of all consults evaluated by the spine service. Each patient’s medical record was reviewed to assess for the presence of ACP documents such as living will, power of attorney, or advance directive. Community-level socioeconomic status was assessed using the Distressed Communities Index. Bivariable and multivariable analyses were performed. Results: We identified 424 patients: 104 (24.5%) of whom had ACP. Patients with ACP were older (64.8 versus 56.5 years, P = 0.001), more likely White (78.8% versus 71.9%, P = 0.057), and present with ASIA Impairment Scale grade A

Methods: This was a retrospective study of 16 reverse total shoulder arthroplasty patients with preoperative and postoperative (CT) scans obtained at least 1 year postoperatively. Clinical ROM was measured in abduction, external rotation at resting abduction, extension, and flexion at a minimum of 1 year postoperatively. All clinical measurements were obtained before generation of PPS ROM values. Using postoperative CT scans, the achieved implant component positions were quantified and then replicated in PPS on the preoperative CT scans. The preoperative predicted ROM was then recorded, both with and without osteophyte removal. Bland-Altman plots were generated within each motion comparing the differences between clinically measured motion and software-predicted motion. Results: The variation in clinically measured ROM in abduction, external rotation at resting abduction, extension, and flexion were 118 ± 27 (65° to 180°), 33 ± 16 (10° to 75°), 56 ± 8 (50° to 65°), and 137 ± 25 (80° to

attention. We hypothesize authors publishing studies achieving greater online attention (higher Altmetric scores) receive greater monetary support from industry while authors publishing studies achieving critical acclaim (more citations) receive greater monetary support from the National Institute of Health (NIH). Methods: Top spine surgery studies between 2010 and 2021 were selected based on Altmetric scores and citation number. The Open Payments Database was accessed to evaluate industry financial relationships while the NIH Research Portfolio Online Reporting Tool was accessed to evaluate NIH funding. Payments were compared between groups and analyzed with the Student t-test, analysis of variance, and chi square analysis. Alpha <0.05. Results: There were 60 and 51 authors with payment data in the top 50 Altmetric and top 50 citation studies, respectively, with eight authors having studies in both groups. Total industry payments between groups were not markedly different. The eight a

athletes, musicians, and Special Forces operators. However, mental skills optimize the ability to achieve the ideal state during surgery that includes absolute focus with the right amount of confidence and stress. The path to this state begins before surgery with visualization of the surgical steps and potential complications. On the day of surgery, the use of compartmentalization, performance aspirations, performance breathing, and keeping the team focused facilitates achieving and maintaining the proper mental state. Considering the similarities between surgery and other fields of expertise that do emphasize the mental pillar, including this training in orthopaedic residencies, is likely beneficial….

ed postoperative dislocation rates in patients who had lumbar spine disease and underwent primary THA using a posterior or direct lateral approach. Methods: Between 2011 and 2017, consecutive cohorts of primary THAs were retrospectively reviewed. One surgeon routinely used a posterior approach, while the other used a direct lateral approach. Chart and radiographic review were conducted to identify patients who had lumbar spine disease. Dislocations among cohorts with and without lumbar spine disease were compared by posterior and direct lateral approaches. Results: The overall dislocation rate was 1.3% (15/1,198). The top four predictors of dislocation were presence of lumbar spine disease (odds ratio [OR] 5.0; P = 0.014), posterior surgical approach (OR, 6.5; P = 0.074), cases performed for fracture (OR, 4.4; P = 0.035), and women (OR, 4.6; P = 0.050). Dislocation rates among direct lateral approach patients who had lumbar spine pathology were significantly lower than posterior approa
