of the original Canabrava technique. Intraocular pressure and visual acuity data were obtained preoperatively and postoperatively. Surgeries were performed with the new modification of the Canabrava technique in 12 patients with implantation incisions as small as 2.2 mm (3.2 to 2.2 mm). The follow-up period ranged from 1 to 13 months. Corrected distance visual acuity improved significantly in all 12 patients, from 0.38 to 0.31 logMAR, whereas the cell count from specular microscopy decreased in average (preoperatively 2191 cells/mm2; postoperatively 1843 cells/mm2) and median (preoperatively 2225 cells/mm2; postoperatively 1902 cells/mm2). This current modification of the Canabrava technique greatly simplifies the procedure, making it easier and faster and with a shorter learning curve….

Mashup Score: 1PRK plus crosslinking to correct refractive error after... : JCRS Online Case Reports - 21 day(s) ago
r-old man underwent bilateral phakic IOL implantation for high myopia in the context of a borderline cornea, characterized by keratometric asymmetry and anterior elevation at the location of the thinnest corneal point. The IOLs experienced spontaneous rotation, which was initially managed by surgical repositioning. However, the IOLs rotated spontaneously again less than a week after the repositioning. Diagnosis, Intervention, and Outcomes: The patient underwent topography-guided photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) combined with accelerated crosslinking (30 mW/cm2 for 90 seconds, totaling 2.7 J/cm2) in both eyes. 6-month post-PRK Xtra, his uncorrected vision improved to 20/20 in the right eye and 20/25 in the left eye. The IOLs have remained stable in their final rotated positions. Conclusions: This is the first reported case, to the authors’ knowledge, of using PRK Xtra to manage residual refractive error in a patient experiencing repeated spontaneous rotation of phakic IOLs. Mashup Score: 0Ciliary processes and ciliary sulcus hypoplasia in Marfan... : JCRS Online Case Reports - 1 month(s) ago
ciliary process and sulcus observed using intraocular endoscopy in patients with Marfan syndrome and lens dislocation. Patient and Clinical Findings: We performed the ciliary sulcus suture fixation of intraocular lens in both eyes of 3 cases with Marfan syndrome and lens dislocation. The ciliary sulcus observed using an intraocular endoscope revealed hypoplasia of the ciliary process in all 3 cases. Therefore, no ciliary sulcus was formed. Diagnosis, Intervention, and Outcomes: Lens luxation was caused by rupture of the zonules of Zinn, most likely caused by hypoplasia of the ciliary process. Hypoplasia of the ciliary processes has been suggested to cause hypoplasia or excessive elongation of the zonules of Zinn, leading to their rupture. Conclusions: Anatomical hypoplasia of the ciliary process was recognized in Marfan syndrome, possibly leading to zonal rupture and lens dislocation. Ciliary process hypoplasia may be associated with Marfan syndrome….

e occurrence and management of implantable collamer lens (ICL) rotation, spontaneous displacement of the ICL has not yet been documented. In this article, we present an interesting case of bilateral ICL displacement. Patient and Clinical Findings: After undergoing bilateral ICL surgery, the patient presented with blurring of vision the next day. On examination, there was symmetrical bilateral displacement of the ICL despite having implanted the maximum size of this lens. Diagnosis, Intervention, and Outcomes: After discussion and analysis, a bilateral explantation of the ICL was performed. Conclusions: Despite taking into consideration all the essential anterior segment parameters for ICL size calculation, there can still be a possibility of ICL displacement….

outcomes of similar cases occurring at least 6 years postoperatively. Patient and Clinical Findings: A 55-year-old man with a history of LASIK surgery 15 years prior presented with flap dehiscence after trauma with a tree branch. His right eye uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA) at presentation was counting fingers. On slitlamp examination, the medial flap edge was folded underneath the temporal aspect. Diagnosis, Intervention, and Outcomes: The flap was unfolded, irrigated, repositioned, and instilled with topical antibiotics. The patient was started on prednisolone acetate 1% and moxifloxacin. On postoperative day 1, his UDVA improved to 20/50 and the flap remained centered and clear. His vision stabilized at 20/30 after 7 months. Peripheral epithelial ingrowth was noted without visual axis obscuration. Conclusions: This case, along with 20 reported instances of late traumatic flap dehiscence, highlights that early recognition with prompt intervention can optimize visual outcom

surgery, and vitrectomy is presented. Recurrent episodes of corneal edema were observed during endurance cycling in temperatures below 10 °C, with complete recovery observed the next day without any treatment. Diagnosis, Interventions, and Outcomes: Pathophysiology and therapeutic strategies were discussed. Local administration of hyperosmolar saline lacked of any effect as did administration of acetazolamide. A protection of the affected eye by contact lens was not successful, but ski goggles could effectively prevent the corneal edema. Conclusions: Some single reports in the literature described roughly similar corneal findings under different conditions. A systematic evaluation of this case could reveal a fateful combination of cold temperature, physical activity, and susceptibility of the corneal endothelium. Protection from cold wind by ski goggles was found to be an effective practical approach….
