October 13, 2023 — Arineta Cardiac Imaging is excited to announce the FDA 510(k) clearance of the SpotLight and SpotLight Duo family of cardiovascular CT (CCT) scanners. The two products extend Arineta’s leadership as the only dedicated cardiovascular CT system, and the Duo system adds high resolution thoracic clinical capability, including for lung cancer, COVID19, and other pulmonary diseases. Both the SpotLight and SpotLight Duo systems add extended coverage for peripheral vascular and runoff studies, a rapidly growing procedure for vascular therapies.   “Arineta has been the leader in cardiovascular CT technology, and the new SpotLight systems continue Arineta’s history of clinical innovation,” said Scott Schubert, Arineta CEO. “Our vision is to grow cardiac CT as the front-line non-invasive test for diagnosing, therapy planning and monitoring of cardiovascular disease- the number one cause of death and costs for healthcare worldwide.”  “The recent change in guidelines from the ACC

Excelsior Correspondent NEW DELHI, Oct 7: Amidst global competition for hi-tech medical devices, India has emerged among the world’s 5 top healthcare manufacturers, but at a much lesser cost, said Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh today. India is manufacturing life-saving high-risk medical devices but the cost is just a fraction of the rest, he said. The Minister was delivering the Inaugural Address at the 8th CAHOTECH, the Annual International Healthcare Technology Conference, organised by Consortium of Accredited Healthcare Organizations (CAHO) […]

September 19, 2023 — An advanced CT test can identify individuals with stable angina at a reduced risk of three-year adverse outcomes despite their having a high coronary artery calcium score, according to a study published today in Radiology, a journal of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA).  In the prospective study, researchers in Denmark assessed the three-year clinical outcomes of patients who underwent CT angiography and CT angiography-derived fractional flow reserve (CT-FFR). CT-FFR uses coronary CT angiography images of the heart, AI algorithms and computational fluid dynamics to simulate the amount of blood flowing through the coronary arteries.  “CT angiography is the first step in identifying the presence of coronary artery disease, but it doesn’t show the impact on blood flow in the arteries,” said lead researcher Kristian T. Madsen, M.D., and Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Cardiology at the University Hospital of Southern Denmark in Esbjerg. “Turbulent b

August 8, 2023 — The Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT) presented two winners of the 17th Annual Canon Young Investigator Awards (YIA) in cardiovascular computed tomography at its Annual Scientific Meeting (SCCT2023), held July 27 – 30 in Boston, Mass.  SCCT awarded Gavin Huangfu, MD, of University of Western Australia as the YIA winner for his abstract, “CT Frailty Model Outperforms Clinical Frailty Score For Mortality Prediction Following TAVR.”  First runner-up is Alexander Te-Wei Shieh for his abstract, “Radiomics Analysis Of Sex-specific Differences In Pericoronary Adipose Tissue Extracted From Coronary Ct Angiography.”  “It’s an exciting time to review research from radiology residents and cardiology fellows in our field, especially as it continues to evolve and expand at such an exponential rate,” says co-chair of the YIA judging panel, Marcus Chen, MD.  “SCCT and Canon Medical Systems remain committed to supporting the research, writing and oral presentation s

This is a space where AI can make some massive gains – not by trying to do radiologists’ jobs better than radiologists, but by extracting information that radiologists aren’t looking for in the first place.
