People aged 55-74 with a history of smoking will be invited for lung cancer screening and smoking cessation services as part of a new programme aimed at improving survival rates. Lung cancer screening was recommended by the UK National Screening Committee last year, and while “lung health checks” have been rolled out in some parts of England, a comprehensive screening programme has not yet been implemented.1 The government has said that the first phase of rollout will reach 40% of the eligible population by March 2025 and plans to reach 100% coverage by March 2030.
