Mashup Score: 6Early Enteral Feeding in Severe Acute Pancreatitis: A Randomized Clinical Trial Between Gastric vs Distal Jejunal Feeding - 2 month(s) ago
Severe acute pancreatitis is one of the most catabolic illnesses. Meta-analyses have shown that enteral nutrition is safer and more effective than parenteral nutrition in suppressing these losses. However, there is intense debate about how the enteral nutrition should be delivered.

Mashup Score: 4The Impact of Frailty on ERCP-Related Adverse Events: Findings from a National Cohort - 2 month(s) ago
Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is an invasive procedure that has evolved from being primarily diagnostic to predominantly therapeutic, leading to an increased potential for ERCP-related adverse events. Frailty is an independent predictor of adverse outcomes, and its impact on ERCP-related outcomes requires investigation. This study evaluated the impact of frailty on ERCP-related adverse events.

Mashup Score: 6Gaps and improvement opportunities in post-colonoscopy communication - 2 month(s) ago
Written colonoscopy reports provide important continuity of care regarding future screening/surveillance, which is particularly important when an individualized approach is being communicated (e.g. in older adults and patients with polyps).1, 2 Despite gastroenterology subspecialty guidance that emphasizes the importance of standardized colonoscopy reporting systems and includes the necessary elements for a high quality report,3, 4 there is variation in clarity and content of endoscopist post-colonoscopy communication.

The aim of this review is to provide an overview of peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) and its utilization in major motor disorders of the esophagus. POEM, a relatively novel endoscopic technique, involves a mucosal incision followed by submucosal tunneling to access esophageal muscle layers, enabling selective myotomy and mitigating the consequences of motor disorders of the esophagus. A number of recent studies have demonstrated noninferiority in shorter myotomy lengths in nonspastic (type I and II) achalasia as compared with standard-length myotomy, which has ramifications for procedural length, reflux disease, and more.

Mashup Score: 4
Peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) is increasingly employed as therapy for sphincteric abnormalities of the gastrointestinal tract, including achalasia, gastroparesis, Zenker’s diverticulum, and other esophageal dysmotility syndromes. The capabilities of functional lumen imaging probe (FLIP) testing include measurement of sphincteric distensibility, diameter, cross-sectional area (CSA), and pressure in these disorders before and after POEM. FLIP can also characterize phasic contractility in non-sphincteric regions, including the esophageal body and pre-pyloric gastric antrum.

Gastroparesis is a chronic debilitation condition characterized by delayed gastric emptying. Medically refractory gastroparesis poses a significant burden on patients and the health care system. Managing these patients can be challenging, partly due to the overlap of symptoms with other functional disorders and the lack of a consistent association between symptoms and the degree of gastric dysmotility. Gastric peroral endoscopic myotomy (G-POEM) has recently emerged as a novel therapeutic option for managing gastroparesis.

Mashup Score: 10Sphincterotomy vs sham procedure for pain relief in Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction: systematic review and meta-analysis - 3 month(s) ago
Endoscopic sphincterotomy (ES) was part of Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction (SOD) management, but recent studies changed attitudes about its utility. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized sham-controlled trials (RCTs) investigating ES for biliary SOD-related pain.

Mashup Score: 8Clinical Efficacy and Safety of a Novel Stent for Fistula Management Following Sleeve Gastrectomy - 3 month(s) ago
Management of fistulas after bariatric surgery has shifted from a surgical to a primarily endoscopic approach. We aimed to determine the efficacy of a novel stent for the closure of fistulas and stent-related adverse events in patients with fistulas after sleeve gastrectomy (SG).

Mashup Score: 60Endoscopic Recognition and Resection of Malignant Colorectal Polyps - 3 month(s) ago
Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer in the United States and the second leading cause of cancer-related death. Colonoscopy with polypectomy reduces the incidence and mortality of colorectal cancer, and with the growing number of advanced endoscopic resection techniques, select malignant polyps can now be managed endoscopically. Optimal management of malignant colorectal polyps involves careful assessment of the polyp based on morphologic and surface features to determine the risk of submucosal invasion.
