Infectious conditions are a significant cause of mortality in autoimmune rheumatic diseases (ARD). Among patients hospitalized with an infection, we compared in-hospital and long-term (3-year) mortality between those with and without ARD.A retrospective cohort analysis of a large health maintenance organization in Israel analyzed adults hospitalized between 2003-2019. The outcomes were in-hospital mortality. Mortality outcomes in patients with ARD (subgroups) were compared to those without ARD.

A metanalysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on treatments of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), confirm the efficacy of several targeted small-molecule drugs. Newly developed therapies have become a hot topic in lupus therapeutics, with most of the attention going to infusible biologics. This network metanalysis included 13 studies and 3,622 patients taking 9 targeted small-molecule drugs for SLE. For most of these trials the primary outcome was SRI-4.

A long-term hydroxychloroquine users study found that 2.7% developed retinopathy, and identified risk factors as increasing age, female sex, chronic kidney disease stage 3+ and tamoxifen use.This Kaiser Permanente cohort study of 4677 patients initiating hydroxychloroquine, and underwent retinopathy screening after 5 years, with up to 15 years of follow-up. Incident hydroxychloroquine retinopathy was classified as parafoveal or pericentral pattern.
