Predictors of pocket hematoma formation after cardiac implantable electronic device procedure and the role of subcutaneous heparin
Formation of a pocket hematoma is a well-known complication of cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIED) procedures and represents the strongest risk factor for a CIED infection.1,2 Several risk factors for developing a pocket hematoma after device implantation have been described, including patient comorbidities, device characteristics, and anticoagulant and antiplatelet medications.3 No study has specifically discussed the role of subcutaneous heparin, which is routinely indicated for prophylaxis in the inpatient population.
