Hansen Disease
A man in his mid-60s from Qatar who had a history of type 2 diabetes was evaluated by the infectious diseases service at our institution. Six years prior to presentation, he had development of hypopigmented patches on his legs (Figure A), back, face, and arms. He was diagnosed as having vitiligo. Two years prior to presentation, he experienced numbness of the lower limbs at the site of the patches, with progression to involvement of the arms three months later. Over the following year, he had development of a left foot drop and bilateral claw hands (Figure B).
