jections administered before TKA/THA procedures is associated with postoperative infections and (2) establish whether infection risk varies by injection type. Methods: This retrospective cohort study included 230,487 THAs and 371,511 TKAs from the 2017 to 2018 Medicare Limited Data Set. The quantity of CSI or HAI, defined as receiving either CSI or HAI ≤2 years before TKA/THA, was identified and categorized as 0, 1, 2, or >2. The primary outcome was 90-day postoperative infection. Multivariable regression models measured the association between the number of injections and 90-day postoperative infection. Odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals were reported. Results: The percentage of THA patients receiving 1, 2, and >2 preoperative CSIs was 6.1%, 1.6%, and 0.8%, respectively. Receiving >2 CSIs within 2 years before THA was associated with higher odds of 90-day postoperative infection (odds ratios = 1.74, 95% CI = 1.11 to 2.74, P = 0.02). The percentage of TKA patients receiving 1, 2,

Mashup Score: 3How Cold Light Was Introduced to Arthroscopy - 7 month(s) ago
In 1954, in a landmark publication, H. H. Hopkins reported that images could be transmitted through glass fibers. This stimulated many investigations and, in 1957, B. Hirschowitz at the University of Michigan, succeeded in constructing a much-needed flexible gastroscope using optic glass fibers. Coating of the fibers by glass of lower refractive index was the next major step forward. Optical fibers were thus insulated and the accuracy of the transmitted image and the light transmission capacity of the fibers were enhanced.

The number of older people worldwide is constantly increasing. However, ageing is accompanied by a decline in cognitive ability that can affect quality of life. Cognitive, physical and social activities can all slow this decline but social factors and their contribution to the well-being remain under-researched. The aim of this study is to analyse how the practice environment can foster these social relations and thus enhance well-being and to identify the psychological dimensions that are activated by social relations. This study is a 3-year randomised controlled trial designed to assess the effects on participants’ cognitive abilities and quality of life of a combined (ie, physical and cognitive) training programme in different social practice environments. A total of 159 older people (≥65 years old) will be recruited and randomly assigned to one of three practice environments: individual practice at home (n=53), group practice in a gymnasium (n=53) and group practice in an enriched
