The more that female foundation doctors see of senior female doctors during placements, the more likely they are to choose to train in that specialty, research has found.1 Researchers from the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) explored the factors that influence which specialties foundation doctors choose to train in because of the stark differences in the gender make up of specialties in both the UK and internationally.
