In June 2024, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine (NASEM) released a twenty-year follow-up to the 2003 Unequal Treatment report – which originally concluded that pervasive health inequities (referred to then as health disparities) were in large part a result of structural and systemic racism in healthcare. Ending Unequal Treatment: Strategies to Achieve Equitable Health Care and Optimal Health for All, offers a comprehensive, deeply researched, evidence-based review of health and health care inequities within the US health care system.
