Individual participant–data meta-analysis (IPDMA) can help in studying predictors of a treatment effect in subgroup analyses. Before starting an IPDMA, it is important to weigh the added benefits against the extra effort needed in comparison to performing an aggregate-data meta-analysis.

With the diffusion of technology, robotic approach has become the preferred to perform partial nephrectomy (PN). Guidelines recommend PN as gold-standard treatment for patients with localized T1 renal tumours, but the techniques used can vary depending on clinical scenario and surgeon’s preference. There are three main modules in which the procedure can be schematized, namely the management of the renal hilum, the resection of the renal mass, and the renorrhaphy phase. The debate over the merits and limitations of the different techniques used during each step of robotic PN is still vivid. Moreover, different surgical accesses can be pursued to perform the surgery, and novel robotic platforms are available on the market. The aim of the special issue is to provide a comprehensive resign of the different techniques used during robotic PN, with a focus on each module, on the surgical access, and the robotic platform used.
