Measles: South Sudan reports 12 000 cases in three months
More than 12 000 measles cases have been recorded so far in 2024 in South Sudan in what Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has labelled a crisis. In the past week 400 cases have been reported in the country which has “alarmingly low” vaccination coverage. MSF has urged health authorities and the World Health Organization to launch an immediate vaccination campaign. MSF teams are currently treating measles cases in Nzara and Yambio counties, where 20% of children affected are over the age of 5.
