In 2021, the top 1 percent of the population ranked by their healthcare expenditures accounted for 24 percent of total healthcare expenditures, while the bottom 50 percent accounted for less than 3 percent. Persons in the top 1 percent expenditure tier had an average of $166,980 in healthcare expenditures in 2021, nearly $30,000 higher than in 2019 or 2018.
