ABO-Compatible Lung Transplant: Should We Pay More Attention?
Passenger lymphocyte syndrome (PLS) is an often underrecognized but important type of graft-versus-host disease seen in ABO mismatched transplants (1). Blood group and minor antigens are most commonly associated with PLS and are consequent to transfer of donor B lymphocytes, which generate high-titer antibodies. Between ABO and minor antigens, ABO with an O donor to an A recipient poses the greatest risk of hemolysis (2). Detection of PLS is straightforward with routine testing, and a positive direct
