Globally, hypertension is estimated to affect 1.28 billion adults aged 30-79 years, the majority of whom have uncontrolled hypertension.1 In the United States, almost half of adults have blood pressure (BP) >130/80 mmHg or are taking an antihypertensive medicine and hypertension is estimated to have caused or contributed to 691,095 deaths in 2021.2 Systemic hypertension results from a mosaic of interdigitating pathophysiological mechanisms, hence a combination of antihypertensive drugs is necessary to lower blood pressure levels.
