Analysis of atrial gene expression profiles identified numerous novel genes associated with persistent AF, in the presence or absence of HF. Interestingly, no consistent transcriptional changes were associated with paroxysmal AF, suggesting that AF-induced changes in gene expression predominate othe …

May 18, 2024 — Boston Scientific Corporation today announced positive six-month results from the ongoing pivotal MODULAR ATP clinical trial of the mCRM System,* the first modular cardiac rhythm management (CRM) system that consists of the EMBLEM Subcutaneous Implantable Defibrillator (S-ICD) System and the EMPOWER Leadless Pacemaker (LP). As components of the mCRM System, the devices are designed to work together wirelessly to coordinate painless intracardiac anti-tachycardia pacing (ATP) therapy, provide rate-responsive bradycardia pacing support and to prevent sudden cardiac death without the risk of leads in the heart or under the sternum. Findings were presented at Heart Rhythm 2024, the annual meeting of the Heart Rhythm Society, and simultaneously published in The New England Journal of Medicine. In addition to evaluating the safety and performance of the EMPOWER LP as a standalone pacemaker, the trial evaluated the ability of the EMBLEM S-ICD System to successfully communicate a

May 18, 2024 — The Heart Rhythm Society (HRS) has announced the findings of three new studies demonstrating the safety and efficacy of pulsed field ablation (PFA), a nonthermal ablation treatment for patients with atrial fibrillation (AFib). PFA shortens operating times and may reduce the chance of damage to surrounding tissues with high safety margins. Researchers presented these findings as late-breaking clinical science during Heart Rhythm 2024 (HRS 2024), being held May 16-19 in Boston, MA. Atrial fibrillation is the most common type of arrhythmia, and by 2050, up to 16 million Americans are projected to have AF1. Contemporary guidelines recommend antiarrhythmic drugs as the initial therapy for the maintenance of sinus rhythm, but these medications are associated with serious adverse events2. Catheter ablation (thermal ablation or PFA) is an effective nonpharmacological alternative that is often, but not always, the second-line treatment if long-term medications or electrical cardi
