Despite dramatic advances in therapeutics for patients with heart failure, fewer trainees are applying to Advanced Heart Failure/Transplant Cardiology (AHFTC) fellowship programs.1 The reasons for this waning interest are likely multifactorial.2 The purpose of this study was to comprehensively review the literature from all medical and surgical specialties, focusing on motivating factors that guide advanced training selection, reasoning that there may be commonalities identified that are applicable to AHFTC fellowship.
