Mashup Score: 52Spectral Doppler Interrogation of the Pulmonary Veins for the Diagnosis of Cardiac Disorders: A Comprehensive Review - 10 day(s) ago
Data obtained from echocardiographic studies are used on a daily basis to guide clinical decision-making regarding patient management and the need for additional diagnostic investigations. Interrogation of blood flow in the pulmonary veins by spectral, most often pulsed-wave, Doppler is an important component of any comprehensive echocardiographic study. Whereas it is most often used to help assess left-sided filling pressure and quantify the severity of mitral regurgitation, the pulmonary vein Doppler profile provides added diagnostic insights into several disorders that affect heart function and allows assessment of their hemodynamic consequences on the heart.

Iatrogenic mitral stenosis is a complication associated with transcatheter edge-to-edge mitral valve repair. Some reports revealed the impact of mean transmitral pressure gradient after procedure on long-term clinical outcomes. However, the association between prognosis and mitral valve orifice area (MVA) after the procedure has been poorly studied. This study aimed to investigate the association between postprocedural small MVA, derived from three-dimensional (3D) transesophageal echocardiography (TEE), and long-term clinical outcomes in 2 cohorts: the degenerative mitral regurgitation (MR) cohort and the functional MR cohort.

Shone complex (or Shone syndrome) is a rare congenital disorder, which consists of supravalvular mitral ring, parachute mitral valve (MV), subaortic stenosis, and coarctation of the aorta (CoA).1 While at least 4 lesions are required to diagnose complete Shone complex, partial Shone complex has been described when patients have only 2 or 3 of these left-sided obstructive lesions.2 This disorder is typically diagnosed in childhood, with adult presentation being rare. Accordingly, we describe a case of partial Shone complex detected in adulthood.
