GMC clarifies handling of complaints related to doctors’ activism
The General Medical Council has published a new guidance statement outlining how it deals with concerns relating to doctors’ actions during protests, including when doctors have been found to have broken the law.1 The guidance states that while “like all citizens, doctors are entitled to their political opinions and have the right to campaign,” they must follow the law and “make sure their conduct justifies patients’ trust in them and the public’s trust in the profession.” The statement follows pressure from doctors for clarity from the GMC on this matter.
