Improving Cognitive Function: Creatine and Roasted Green Tea

Dear readers,

More and more, my clinic time is spent discussing concerns over memory with patients. This week, two natural approaches showed promise in clinical trials, creatine supplementation and roasted green tea. Less optimistic is a report that death rates from congestive heart failure (CHF) are going up, not down. This is concerning in view of the advances in the therapy of CHF. Also concerning is that women are receiving medications like statins less frequently than men. If it is not microplastics, it is phthalates that are causing cardiovascular disease. Need a simple heart hack? Take the stairs whenever possible. Using Zepbound (tirzepatide) for weight loss also lowers the risk of sleep apnea. Finally, a small but fascinating study from the creator of the Fasting Mimicking Diet, PROLON, found that a rare disorder leading to lifelong low levels of IGF-1 is also associated with a favorable cardiovascular profile. Encouraging for those of us that use this fasting product.

Be well,
Joel Kahn, MD, FACC
