Bempedoic Acid: New Observations

Dear readers,

Bempedoic acid (BA) is a unique prescription drug used to lower cholesterol levels for both primary and secondary prevention. Its mechanism is distinct from statin drugs and other classes of therapeutics. A systematic review analyzes the role of BA in combination with statins. A report from Germany on apheresis includes many patients treated with BA. A review comparing BA and other newer lipid-lowering therapies is included here. The possible benefit of BA on hepatic steatosis is intriguing. Statin alternatives are needed, and BA plays a central role. Finally, the lipid-lowering therapies like BA in acute coronary syndromes are reviewed.

Be well,

Joel Kahn, MD, FACC
