Mapping Attacks on LGBTQ Rights in U.S. State Legislatures

This legislative session has seen a significant uptick in fundamentals such as health care, education, and the freedom of expression for the #LGBTQIA+ communities. The ACLU is tracking 434 bills; unsurprisingly, these mainly originate from the Southern States. Most of these bills have advanced into committee, and about two dozen have been made into law so far. For comparison, 315 bills were introduced in the legislative session last year. In 2021, the European think tank International IDEA, for the first time, reported that the US is backsliding in terms of democracy- these bills/laws that restrict the rights of Americans are clear examples of how our democracy is backsliding.
